Bodybuilding Snacks

Posted: February 23, 2011 in fitness

This post is inspired by our friend Jeffery who apparently thought it was ok to down a bag of popcorn before the gym (he refereed to it as a quick snack). We later on explained to him that greasy fingers at the gym is never a good thing. If you happen to find yourself running late or in a crazed rush due to your pre-workout sup, here are some great on the go healthy snacks for you.

  1. Almonds: High in protein and fiber.
  2. Grapes: Antioxidants and high in fiber.
  3. Yogurt: Low in fat, high in calcium and good for your gut.
  4. Honey: A healthy energy booster.
  5. Bananas: 14% Daily value of potassium (one banana)
  6. Baby Carrots: 200% Daily Value of vitamin A (half a cup)
  7. Raisins: Good for eyes, teeth, bones, and constipation ;)
  8. Strawberries: Great source of vitamins that help boost your immune system.

Protein is essential when it comes to bodybuilding so make sure you’re getting your proper daily dose. Experts recommend that endurance and strength training athletes have between 0.8 to 1.5 grams of protein per pound for the best and fastest results. Make sure your mixing the proteins up in your diet, eating a variety of foods will ensure that you get all of the amino acids you need.  Some Amazing sources of protein are seafood (the best source), milk, cheese, yogurt, eggs, beans, lean beef, and soy. If you’re trying to grab a quick intake of protein grab a meal replacement drink or protein bar. Just double-check the label to make sure the product contains at least ten grams of protein, is low in sugar, carbs and fat. Some of the best-selling protein supplements around are Gold Standard 100% Whey (Optimum), Syntha-6 (BSN), Myofusion (Gaspari Nutrition), and Cyto-Sports Muscle Milk.

Ohhh there was nothing sweeter then seeing Kobe Bryant win the MVP award over Lebron James last night. Kobe Bryant definitely proved to everyone that this was his house! He also showed that no one will decide when he passes the torch. Someones literally going to have to snatch the torch from Bryant because he isn’t going to give it away easily. Kobe Bryant at age thirty-two is still in amazing shape and is without question still an unstoppable force. Doctors say that his finger (index finger on his shooting hand) is equivalent to an eighty year olds! Last night Kobe had 37 points 14 rebounds and 3 steals! Amazing how he still performs with the top players in the league.

Some gyms on long Island are amazing but others just straight up suck. When I pay for a membership I don’t want to be worrying about leaky ceilings dripping on my head or broken water fountains. All we ask for are non rusted weights, unbroken cables and good-looking women (not asking for a lot gym owners). Here are some great gyms I’ve found across Long Island. La Fitness, Unique Fitness, Fitness Plus, Golds Gym, X-Sport Fitness and Balleys are among the cleanest and well-kept gyms I’ve seen . When it comes down to it the way you train is all that matters but follow that with a positive environment and it can only make you better!

Fight Scene of The Week

Posted: February 20, 2011 in fitness

The Undisputed fight scenes are epic and are sure to get your blood pumping before the gym. Watch these great athletic moves in aw only dreaming you could be this talented.

It’s sad to say our first time taking a pre-workout supplement was at the age of fifteen. No-Explode was the first supplement we experimented with and let me tell you three scoops at age fifteen was probably a really poor decision by the both of us. Having no idea the effects it had we read the bottle assuming it would take thirty minutes to kick in but that wasn’t the case. Almost instantly we felt un imaginable pumps where we were ready to start rolling my 95 Jetta down the driveway ( not joking ). This supplement had us so pumped we were looking to lift anything from grabbing chains of my garage wall to throwing a spare tire around in my backyard. My garage door was always open and people from across the street would always stop in. Former inmate from Rikers Island made a stop into my garage while we were lifting one day. Meeting Leroy was an unforgettable experience, he literally walked in and said hey I’m Leroy put all your weights on the bench (This isn’t a joke by the way). My weights consisted of a few 45′s 25′s and alto of 10′s. Never the less we added all the weight we could find. He did about fifteen reps and left us with the original Get Rich or Die Trying CD by 50 and said good luck boys. Our motivation was through the roof at that point and still continues today!

Drinking is the ultimate workout killer. Alcohol consumption can drastically increase our calorie intake, and switch our hormones to a more fat storing, muscle losing environment! Casual drinking can and will destroy your whole workout and here’s why. The problem is caused by the fact that alcohol ultimately dehydrates the body at a quick pace ( hints why when your drinking you can piss twenty times throughout the night ) . Most people don’t realize In order to build muscle mass the body needs water. With out proper hydration muscle can not grow and it certainly can’t be maintained. So think twice before you take that shot with your favorite blonde friend or that tasty dark beer because it is essentially taking away all of your hard work at the gym :(
